Use It or Lose It

With age comes wisdom, confidence, grit ... and dry vaginas.

In exchange for the many blessings of getting older, we are asked to endure some seemingly unfair changes in our bodies. Decreasing estrogen levels mean a decline in the body’s ability to produce hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin—basically all of the things that keep our vaginal tissues juicy and plump. A drop in estrogen can also send our sex drives packing.

Between dry, extra-sensitive tissues and a lackluster libido, many of us understandably stop having sex or pleasuring ourselves. But here are three very good reasons to keep the good times going.

Use It or Lose It

Sexual stimulation increases blood flow to the vagina, and this circulation is essential to maintaining sexual wellbeing as we age. Without regular stimulation, the vaginal canal actually becomes shorter and narrower, leading to painful intercourse. Regular stimulation—and a good lube—can keep vaginal tissues plump, moist, and happy for the long haul.

An Orgasm a Day ...

Okay, that might be a lot for some of us, but orgasms have so many benefits they might just be the best kept health secret on the planet. Orgasms significantly reduce stress, improve mood, boost bladder control, improve sleep, lower blood pressure, and even reduce the risk of heart attacks. Damn. You’d better go have one right now.

The Power of Touch

Whether it’s shagging or snuggling, our bodies crave touch. Healthy physical contact can lower blood pressure, reduce stress, boost the immune system, and protect the heart.

Our older years are a gift to enjoy. Let’s fill them with pleasure.
