Solstice Magic

Happy Solstice!

This incredible holiday signals the beginning of winter and the return of the light.  The winter solstice is the longest night of the year and the farthest that we drift from the sun. This is my very favorite holiday because it’s wrapped in hope, magic, and the guarantee that the light is returning.

The dark winters are meant as a time for us to hibernate, consider, dream, and indulge in self-care. Consider the plants that shed their seeds in the fall allowing them to germinate throughout the winter gathering energy as they rest so they can form shoots that grow strong and directed in the spring.

The solstice offers us a perfect opportunity to reflect on our lives, what we love, what we are grateful for, what we can release, and what we want to manifest in the year to come. Like planting seeds for our future, the solstice allows us to thoughtfully reflect, plan, and dream the life we want to create.

This year’s winter solstice is wrapped in an extra treat as it falls on the “Great Conjunction,” an astrological event when Jupiter and Saturn align.  This is the first time in 400 years that these planets have come so near to one another and signals a much-needed shift in the dominant paradigm.

Ideas for bringing solstice magic into your life:

  • Light candles in your home as a warm welcome to the return of the light
  • Meditate
  • Journal about what you are grateful for and what you want to bring into your life. Think of what are the seeds that you want to germinate in your life.
  • Make yourself a nourishing meal with in-season vegetables, nuts, and fruits as an act of love for your body and the connection to the earth that feeds us
  • Make a fire and place the yule log to burn away that which no longer serves to leave space for all that you desire to bring into your life.
